I agree mostly with what you're saying about separation of church and state, with exception to only one thing you brought up. How do we know that Pat Robertson (or others) is not speaking what God has told him to speak? No one heeded Jeremiah. John preached that the "kingdom of God is at hand" to a mostly unbelieving Israel. Jesus lost even his most devoted followers at the time of his arrest, and these men had seen him perform miracles only God could do!
I'm not trying to put Robertson on that level, just saying that its dangerous to judge whether or not a man is speaking for God. Only he and God know for sure. Personally, I think his statements are so outlandish that he is either crazy or telling the truth!
